How to read your tire size

Your size is printed on the side of the tire and on the sticker inside the driver's door. In 225/65R17, 225 is the width in millimeters, 65 is the sidewall height as a percent of the width, R means radial, and 17 is the rim size in inches.

The numbers, one by one

Using P225/65R17 102H as the example:

  • P: passenger tire. LT means light truck
  • 225: width of the tire in millimeters
  • 65: sidewall height, 65% of the width
  • R: radial construction, almost every tire today
  • 17: fits a 17 inch rim
  • 102: load index, how much weight the tire carries
  • H: speed rating

Where to find it

The door sticker is what the car came with. If the tires on it now are a different size, go by the sticker or ask us.

  • On the sidewall of the tire you have now
  • On the sticker inside the driver's door frame
  • In the owner's manual

Send it to us any way you like

225/65R17, 225 65 17 or 2256517 all work. Call, text or type it into the size finder, and we'll tell you if we have it today. Match the load index and speed rating to what came on the car, or go higher.

Questions

Can I put a different size on my car?
Stick with the size on the door sticker unless we've checked the fit with you. The wrong size can rub, throw off the speedometer or trip the traction control.
What does the rim size mean for price?
Bigger rims cost more. Our used tires start at $40 for 15 inch and run to $80 to $90 for 22 inch.
